Ringer’s Solution for Infusion is indicated to:

• Restore sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride balances
• Treat isotonic dehydration

Opening Instructions:

1. Remove the Viaflo container from the over pouch just before use.
2. Check for leaks by squeezing the inner bag. Discard if leaks are found.
3. Inspect the solution for clarity and absence of foreign matter. Discard if not clear.

Preparation for Administration:

1. Use sterile materials.
2. Suspend the container from the eyelet support.
3. Remove the plastic protector from the outlet port:
   • Grip the small wing on the port neck with one hand.
   • Twist the large wing on the cap with the other hand to pop it off.
4. Use an aseptic technique to set up the infusion.
5. Attach the administration set. Follow the set’s directions for connection, priming, and administration.

Adding Medications:

Warning: Check additive compatibility. Ensure isotonicity before administration. Mix additives aseptically and use them immediately.

Before Administration:

1. Disinfect the medication site.
2. Inject the medication with a 19 to 22-gauge needle.
3. Mix thoroughly. Tap ports gently if using high-density medications like potassium chloride.

During Administration:

1. Close the clamp on the set.
2. Disinfect the medication site.
3. Inject the medication with a 19 to 22-gauge needle.
4. Turn the container upright, tap the ports to evacuate, and mix thoroughly.
5. Return the container to its position, open the clamp, and continue administration.

Caution: Do not store bags with added medications.
